Revolutionary Communist Group (UK)
The Revolutionary Communist Group (RCG) is a Marxist-Leninist political organisation based in the United Kingdom which is socialist and communist. It currently campaigns against austerity and cuts in Britain, linking this to the crisis of capitalism. According to its own statements, the group "exists in order to defend and develop an anti-imperialist trend within Britain, based on the long term interests of the entire working class and oppressed internationally. We stand for the creation of a society organised both to meet the needs of the entire population, and to ensure the fullest possible development of every individual."〔Revolutionary Communist Group.〕 Central to the politics of the RCG is the characterisation of Britain as an imperialist state, which therefore has implications on its class structure. According to the RCG's development of Lenin's theory of the labour aristocracy, a section of the working class in Britain is bought off by the crumbs of the superprofits of imperialism, thus creating a material basis for a section of the working class to undermine and hold back any political movement which challenges capitalism. The Labour Party is seen as a vehicle for the interests of this labour aristocracy - fighting to protect its interests. The RCG argues that much of the British left refuses to challenge capitalism, imperialism, and the British state, supporting the Labour Party at elections. The Labour Party is seen as 'opportunist', organising to protect narrow interests, rather than the interests of the international working class. In practice the RCG organises to expose the pro-imperialist politics of the Labour Party, and attempts to build a movement which is not dominated by the privileged sections of the working class. The RCG is highly critical of British foreign policy, believing it to be imperialist, serving the interests of finance capital which is central to the British economy. In particular, they criticise British control of Northern Ireland, the involvement of British troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, British participation in the bombing of Libya, covert intervention in Syria, and the British government’s support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine.〔
Believing that the British electoral system cannot bring about any real change in society, the RCG organises around the slogan 'Don't vote, organise!'. The group also publish their own newspaper, which now appears every two months, entitled ''Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism!'', which has been running since November–December 1979.
